DAPI M – Availability Monitor: Project completion
Project completion on July 31, 2026
The »DAPI M – Availability Monitor« project was successfully completed on July 31, 2026. Since its launch in 2022, the project, with the support of participating pharmacies and pharmacy software providers, has yielded important results for community pharmacies. As a result, valuable practical experience was gained, and the technical capabilities and innovative expertise of the participating partners were impressively demonstrated.
The intended proof of concept was successfully demonstrated.
This includes not only demonstrating the technical and organizational feasibility of data-driven collection and analysis of out-of-stock items, but also the development and application of comprehensive expertise in the technical analysis, interpretation, and classification of the collected data. The insights gained were not only utilized at the national level but also contributed to a pan-European collaborative project. The project has thus demonstrated the contribution that pharmacy-based supply data can make to the informed assessment of supply shortages and to the further development of data-driven monitoring approaches.
According to the regulations outlined in the German Act to »Combat Supply Shortages of Off-Patent Medicinal Products and Improve the Supply of Medicines for Children« (Medicinal Products Supply Shortage Prevention and Supply Improvement Act – ALBVVG), the core objective of our project, which entailed monitoring supply shortages, has been transferred to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM). The recently enacted German »Pharmacy Services Development Act« (ApoVWG) has upheld this provision.
This effectively negates the original economic and operational benefits of the project for local pharmacies. A decision has therefore been made to discontinue DAPI M as of July 31, 2026. Any reports submitted by pharmacies will no longer be processed in the future.
